Our New School!
Wednesday 8th June 2016

A very warm welcome to all children, parents and staff to our lovely new school. A special thank you goes out to all the school staff and building staff who worked incredibly hard to get the school ready to open today. We look forward to many thousands of boys and girls in the years to come, beginning their own journeys of discovery, learning and hard work within the walls of our wonderful new school.

Y5 Visit To The Galleries Of Justice

As part of their project about crime and punishment, Y5 visited the Galleries Of Justice in Nottingham. They learnt about the history of justice in this country, and took part in the mock trial of “Fagin”, who was charged with being the worst of the worst.

Whisby Natural World Centre

Many thanks to Adie, Sheri and Helen from Whisby Natural World Centre Lincoln. Year 3 learnt about fossils, the earth and soil.  They got to hunt for their own fossils, then make plaster models of them from clay moulds, and be an active part of creating new humus soil by crushing, squeezing, crunching and breaking up organic material.

Viking Minecraft Mod

If you’ve ever wondered what could make the rich and colourful history of the Viking people more interesting, Finlay from 3N has the answer – MINECRAFT! Combining Minecraft after school club with this term’s Y3 topic of the Vikings, Finlay has created a longboat of outstanding quality and imagination: absolutely brilliant work, well done!

 
Viking Invasion

Today Y3 and Crosby School experienced a Viking invasion, as a group of Nordic historians brought the past to life with stories, role play and materials used by some of the Viking invaders who occupied this country hundreds of years ago.  We learnt about the culture and technologies used by them, and how their influence is still with us to this day.

Christmas Prize Draw - Results

Thanks to all who bought a raffle ticket this year for the Crosby prize draw.  All your help allowed us to raise £435 towards CCOPPS - our own charity which raises money to buy outdoor play equipment and toys for children to use.

KS1 Christmas Concert

Many thanks to all who attended the KS1 Christmas Concert today, we had a fabulous time performing and hope you all had as much fun watching.

Remember, there will be an opportunity to buy prints of the photographs as taken by the Scunthorpe Telegraph, which will be available from school reception.

Migle, Amirul and Adam's Magnetic Game
Friday 11th December 2015

As part of a Year 3 Science DT project, the children from 3N have been learning all about magnetism and the properties of magnets.  They were tasked with designing, building and presenting their own game based on magnets to the class.  Migle, Amirul and Adam’s game was voted by their friends in 3N as the best. In this video we learn about how to play the game and how they came up with the winning design.  The design will now be sent off to Santa’s elves just in time for Christmas!

 
Christmas Performance Times

As most years, the Christmas performances at Crosby will take place in the form of 4 performaces, split over 2 days, a morning and an afternoon show.  This year's performance being extra special, as it will be the last performace we do before moving to our new school next year, so it should be a show to remember.

Our cook, Mrs Winter, and her team have volunteered to provide food for all the parties this year.  Therefore, we are asking for a contribution of 80p per child, to cover the cost, rather than a donation of food.

Christmas Prize Draw

Everyone is very welcome to buy a Christmas Raffle ticket for this year’s festive CCOPPS fund raising.

We've got some cracking prizes this year including a Grays of Winterton Butcher's Hamper, worth £85! Napoleons Casino Dine in Style package for 2, Scunthorpe Utd tickets and 26 brilliant other prizes.  Tickets should have been sent home with children, please return unwanted tickets to school where they can be sold to other people.

 
Remembrance Day

Thank you to all who took part and attended today's Remembrance Service, which helped to keep alive the memory of many service men, women and all who have lost their lives, as a result of conflict throughout the world.

 

 
Minecraft Crosby
Thursday 5th November 2015

Minecraft after school club continues to be incredibly popular with its members.  All children are invited to apply, successful candidates are chosen at random at the start of each half term, to attend once a week for 6-7 weeks (Mon, Wed or Fri 15:00-15:45).

Minecraft Club is fun, but it does also promote cooperative play, web safety, maths, spatial awareness and a whole host of other skills which help to produce healthy happy children.

 
Drum Club Age UK

Well done to Crosby Drum Club this week who visited members of Age UK, to perform some of their routines of percussion and rhythm.

Drum Club are well known for using many different instruments and techniques, ranging from military marches to upturned buckets! The group were graciously received and were even asked to perform an encore.

As part of her Y5 work, Amelia wrote and performed a spooky tale about a black cat of Scunthorpe, it was just so brilliant we had to film it and show the rest of the world - well done Amelia, as soon as I get home I'm boarding up my cat flap (just in case).

 
Happy Harvest

A big thank you to all the children and families who donated food and produce for our harvest celebrations this week. All items donated are given to Scunthorpe Food Bank which will then be distributed amongst those who would benefit most from them.  Gratitude is also given to those parents and carers of Crosby children who made a special effort to attend our harvest assembly, we hope you enjoyed the event.

The Romans In Crosby

Today Crosby School and Y4 welcomed Ronulus the Roman solider into Crosby. He was kind enough to teach us all about the reign of the Roman Empire across Europe and our own shores. 

We learnt about the Roman way of life, military tactics, language and the legacy they've handed down to us, which we still use today.

The Art Of Being Brilliant

Andy Cope describes himself as a "professional trainer, qualified teacher, author and learning junkie". He is currently doing a Doctorate at the University of Loughborough... investigating the science of happiness and positivity.

Andy came into Crosby today to speak to the school about his book series “Spy Dog” and about his programme of positivity and happiness.

Year 3 Visit to Holy Souls Church
Monday 21st September 2015

Many thanks to Father Eddie who showed all of Year 3 the inside of Holy Souls Catholic Church this morning, as part of their work this term on religion and our community.  Father Eddie gave us a warm welcome on a rainy day, and introduced us to some key concepts of Catholicism, including Baptism, Easter and Christmas, as well as showing us around the inside of the Church to features like the font, the stained glass windows, the alter, organ, pews and lectern.

BeeBotalula
Monday 21st September 2015

Foundation Year began their journey onto the world of computing and electrical engineering  this morning with the introduction to BeeBots.  Beebots are used throughout the UK to teach KS1 and KS2 the principles of computer coding, commands and translating ideas into actual events.  These next 2 weeks all of F2 will have the opportunity to try the BeeBots, where they will guide their robots around a course using commands of forwards, backwards, turn left or turn right.  As their confidence grows, these skills then are used to operate more complicated computer programs .

 
100% Brilliant Crosby Pupils

Walk To School, Get Fit and Earn Badges
Monday 7th September 2015

Former pupil and fitness champion Mr Cave, came into school today to promote a new initiative aimed at encouraging children to be healthy. Mr Cave comes from an organisation called ‘Living Streets’ and the programme is aptly called ‘Walk To School’.  Everyday each child in class gets to use the white board to record how they travelled to school, if the child walks to school at least once a week for a month, they get to win a unique ‘Walk To School’ badge. 

The programme lasts the academic year and there are 11 different badges to be collected. More information can be found on the Living Streets website (http://www.livingstreets.org.uk/walk-with-us/walk-to-school)

 
Welcome Meetings for all Children and Parents

To help your family start this academic year the best way possible, we’d like to invite all parents and carers of Crosby children to one of our welcome sessions.

These meetings will introduce you to your child’s new teacher, classroom topics, types of homework, days to remember PE kits, how to report absences, information about trips and lots of other useful information to help your family this year.  Each session lasts about half an hour.

No booking is needed, please just come to the school on the date and time below
